Exercise

NEVER feed a Husky/dog an hour before or after exercise. They can get gut torsion which can be fatal!

The Siberian Husky is a working dog that was originally bred to pull sleds for up to 150km a day! When one considers this, 1-2 hours of exercise daily is the least we should do for them. You will often find that your Husky will be able to handle all the exercise that you can throw at them and still have energy to spare.

It is very important that your Husky gets lots of exercise on a daily basis. That will go a long way in keeping them healthy and reducing hyperactive and destructive behaviour that is caused by boredom and a lack of activity.

There are many exercises you can try with your Husky:

  • Running: whether it’s on the beach or in nature, the faster your Husky is moving, the more energy they will release. As Huskies have good endurance, they can make great running partners.

  • Walking/Hiking: allows them to explore and stimulate their minds with the sights, sounds and smells they come across.

  • Mushing: if you are in Cape Town, we are lucky enough to have Mush It Up. Sam & Fam take all Huskies for a sledding session on the beach, every Saturday at 5pm (later in the summer months) at Sunrise Beach in Muizenberg. We guarantee that they will come home tired and sleep like babies.

  • And many others: agility training, frisbee, canibike, etc…

Your Husky needs regular exercise, every day, consistently! It’s a good idea to try and incorporate their exercise into a hobby of your own. If you’re a runner or enjoy rollerblading, bring your Husky along and make that their exercise. It is then more likely that you will remain consistent
